The following residents of the ACT draw the attention of the Assembly to the following:
a) The Tuggeranong 55 Plus Club is a well-attended and valued community hub with more than 850 members.
b) The current club carpark has 14 spaces, which is insufficient to meet the needs of the club members.
c)Utilisation of the government-managed carpark on Cowlishaw Street opposite the club is low.
d) There are seven three-hour parking bays in front of the club that are often occupied by members of the public.
e) Many club members have mobility issues, making accessible parking and safe drop-off areas essential.
Your petitioners, therefore, request the Assembly to call on the ACT Government to:
a) Consider all measures that will increase the number of car parking spaces available for members only at, or near, the club, including providing the club with parking permits for the government-managed car park adjacent to the club;
b) Change the time-limited street parking in the seven bays outside the club to members only or reduce the time limit to 15 minutes to allow pick up/drop off spaces; and
c) Assess the accessibility of the route from the government-managed car park to the club, including the feasibility of installing a pedestrian crossing on Cowlishaw Street, with particular attention to the safety and convenience for seniors.
