The following residents of the ACT draw the attention of the Assembly that Molonglo is one of the fastest growing regions in the ACT, with the population forecast to reach 79,000 residents by 2065.
As families continue to move into the district, the need for adequate, accessible playing fields becomes increasingly urgent to support community health, provide equitable access to sport, strengthen local clubs, and foster social cohesion.
High capacity district playing fields, in addition to the proposed field at Stromlo Forest Park, will deliver long term benefits for physical and mental wellbeing, youth development, and neighbourhood identity.
Your petitioners, therefore, request the Assembly to call on the ACT Government to:
1) Revisit the planning assumptions for Molonglo’s district playing fields;
2) Identify a site that can support the required scale of playing fields now and into the future; and
3) Commit to delivering properly scaled, fit‑for‑purpose facilities that will meet the needs of Molonglo families for decades to come.
